One of the key measures for innovation is the number of patents a company holds. Patents are tangible and powerful assets a company can use to increase its value, gain dominance in the market and block competitors. Giants like Apple and Samsung are good examples. We see how they invest millions into patents and how they then use patents to joust each other and the competition from the market place.

This will be a sharing of a real life experience of how we in a local division of an MNC strategically built a solid patent portfolio within a relatively short period of time. This allowed the division to compete against the larger competitors in an industry heavily protected by patents. This talk will cover the approach, the strategies and process for building a strong patent portfolio.

This sharing will be very beneficial for those who want to be innovative and build a strong IP portfolio to compete against the “Goliaths” of their industry. This sharing will also benefit large companies who want to continue to innovate, especially if they are moving into a new space and want to claim that space by planting their patent stakes on the ground.
